THE DAILY NUGGET
(Dies Verenis- Latin for Day of Venus (Friday)
Nugget #5
Greetings, mortals! In the style of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Fellowship of the Ring, do read on….
In a cosy corner of the world, nestled among rolling rectangular blocks and tranquil roads, there lived a most extraordinary folk known as Manjusrian teachers, an unobtrusive people more numerous today than they were formerly. They weren’t famous giants but were sturdy and wise folk with gentle souls that spent their days shaping young minds and nurturing curiosity. Fond of quiet reflection and written wisdom, they could often be found surrounded by tomes and scrolls, their eyes twinkling with each sparkling discovery. In the early hours of the morn and beating afternoon sun, they were nimble and deft in their movements who possessed first the art of disappearing swiftly and silently into their beloved classrooms where their influence spread far and wide, sowing seeds of knowledge that would one day blossom into mighty oaks of wisdom. But Manjusrian teachers, have never in fact, studied magic of any kind and their elusiveness during those hours is due solely to a professional skill that saw them content with simple joys, such as the smiles of youth and the scent of fresh parchment or illuminated screens of brilliance. At this point, a new history begins in Manjusri as these teachers were, in their own humble way, the true keepers of the future.
My wonderful keepers of the future, I wonder how many of us are aware that the beauty of the English language is heavily influenced by ancient languages such as Latin and Greek. Let’s take a look at some common words in English that have Greek and Latin roots.
May our understanding of Greek and Latin help us to better understand the magic behind some of the English words that we use today.
As we come to a fitting end of EL Fest, we would like to thank all of you for your rousing support for EL Fest. In the words of the wise creator of the beloved Harry Potter series, here’s a special quote for all of us as we continue the good work with our students as keepers of Manjusri.
We hope you’ve enjoyed today’s nugget!
Look out for a real treasure (sponsored by our own WWF Champions, oops sorry I mean MMF (Mag, Mich, Faith) Champions of EL)
on your table because all of you are also CHAMPIONS!
See you next year!
