Subject: New device for Robotics Club

Dear Mr Tan,

I am Jefferson Goh, the President of the Robotics Club. Recently, our club was granted $25,000
to purchase a new device for the benefit of our club and to teach them how to code. When I was
tasked to find a new device to benefit our club, I happened to stumble upon a leaflet from a
company that is selling such devices at a discounted price and I thought that it would be a great
idea to share with you what I intend to purchase.

Since our club is solely focused on equipping our members with the knowledge to code and
have a strong understanding of the technology around us in a fun learning environment, we will
have to brainstorm ways to encourage our members to have fun and also learn at the same
time. From the leaflet, it lists down three types of robots that they sell that are even suitable for
school competitions. Among all the three, the Autonomous Mobile Robot (AMR) seems to be
the closest to our needs for the robotics programme. The other two, the drone and the robo-dog
do also fulfil our needs but still, the AMR is much better.

The AMR can not only be programmed and coded, it is also capable of efficiently completing
and finishing tasks that are given. I believe that society will soon integrate artificial intelligence
into our daily lives and the workforce. Hence, using such robots to educate and teach our
members would come in handy for them in the future, which is what our club intends to teach
our members about. The AMR contains a range of complex sensors using artificial intelligence.
Its ability to move and do tasks makes it a great way to teach our students how to code and
program.

In the future when we take part in robotics related competitions, the students would benefit
greatly from the coding skills taught using the mobile robot. The students would be able to code
a robot to do tasks for them and gain exposure to the coding world, which would in turn benefit
them greatly. Due to the fact that the mobile robot is able to be used in competitions, it would
come to us as a great benefit too. The knowledge gained from coding can be used and the
robot would be able to perform what it has been tasked to do.

Apart from only benefiting us, I believe the robot would come in handy as our school’s mini
cleaner. Since we are able to code and program it to do tasks, we are able to code the robot so
that the robot can clean or pick up rubbish around school and reduce some of the burden of our
school cleaners. As our school cleaners work tirelessly to keep our school clean, it would not
hurt to let the robot help out. In addition, I believe that the robot does not need a rest or a
charge very frequently so I feel like it would alleviate some of the school cleaners’ burden.

I personally think that the AMR would bring great benefit to our club and to the school. The
advancement of artificial intelligence has come to a point whereby such robots would eventually
integrate into our society and play a huge role in society. It would be great to teach the members
to code and program such a robot. I hope that you will consider my decision.

Thank you.

Yours sincerely,
Jefferson
